I tre anni appena trascorsi erano stati molto impegnativi.
Sono stati gli anni più importanti della carriera di Oriano. Oltretutto, per lui erano di doppio impegno - ma anche di doppia soddisfazione - in quanto è stato il primo ed unico Comandante di stormo ad essere stato anche, in precedenza, Comandante del gruppo di volo -101mo Gruppo- unità combattente dell' 8* Stormo. Altra peculiarità, Oriano è stato l'unico romagnolo a comandare quello stormo sito in terra romagnola.
Ormai mi conoscete abbastanza per sapere che il mio appoggio ad Oriano in quei tre anni è stato completo (come già detto, chi ci ha rimesso è stata Oriana).
Pensate... nei paesi anglossassoni, l'apporto delle mogli (e delle famiglie) considerato così importante, che, non solo esse vengono "valutate" ma influenzano le note caratteristiche del militare, come avremmo poi avuto conferma nei tre anni che, da lì a poco, trascorreremo in Germania presso la NATO. (Vedi il prossimo post).
Qui, giusto o sbagliato che sia, non è così ma il mio dovere l'ho fatto, e so anche di averlo svolto bene.
Il rapporto con le altre famiglie, affrontare eventuali problemi sorti, offrire aiuto laddove serviva, le feste da organizzare, per piccoli e adulti e... le serate di rappresentanze!!
Per darvi un'idea: durante le festività natalizie e di capodanno ci fu una stessa serata con 5 inviti a cena! Per non fare torto a nessuno, mi scusai con tutti i padroni di casa, assicurando, si, la nostra presenza ma per una visita sentita ma breve. Così dividemmo la serata per... portate!!
Degustammo un delizioso antipasto dal colonello dei Carabinieri; dopo un saluto con tanti auguria tutti e qualche chilometro in macchina, la moglie del comandante dell'Aeroporto di Rimini ci servì i classici cappelletti romagnoli; poi una lasagna napoletana preparata dalla moglie del comandante della Guardia di Finanza e così via... Ulteriore curiosità? Le padrone di casa erano originarie di diverse regioni, perciò avevamo anche fatto un bel viaggio culinario.
Questo periodo, però è stato molto importante anche per me. A 45 anni, e grazie ad una ceramista, incontrata per caso, ho scoperto che potevo "creare": che le mie mani mi potevano servire a "realizzare".
Lasciando la Romagna Oriano volta pagina, ed io?
Iniziai un lunghissimo viaggio nell'artigianato...
Dunque nel 1991... torniamo a Roma... Sempre alla Pisana, in quelle stesse palazzine dell’Aeronautica da dove eravamo partiti tre anni prima.
Oriana vi frequentò i tre ultimi anni del liceo classico e Oriano diresse il CIGA (Centro informazioni geotopografiche aeronautiche) con sede a Pratica di Mare.

In 1991 we moved back to Rome.
The past three years had been challenging.
These had been the most important years in Oriano's career.
For him, they had been a double commitment -but also a double satisfaction- because he had been the first and only Wing Commander who had also been, previously the 101* Squadron Commander, a combat unit of this same 8th Wing.
Another peculiarity, Oriano has been the only commander commanding in the region, Romagna, where he is from.
By now, you know me enough to know that I surely and definitely supported Oriano in those three years, (as I already said, the only one who in fact "took a loss" was Oriana).
Just imagine... in the Anglo-Saxon countries, the contribution of wives (and families) is considered so important, that, not only they "pass a judgment" but they also influence the evaluation notes of the military, as we discovered a few years later during our stay at NATO in Germany. (see next post)
Here in Italy, nevertheless, I did my duty and I also know I did it properly.
The relationship with other families, dealing with any showed up problems, offering help where served, the parties to be organized for children and adults and... the official events!!
Just to give you an idea: during the Christmas and New Year festivities, we received 5 dinner invitations for the same evening! In order not to do anyone any wrong, we assured our presence but for a heartfelt but brief visit. So we split the evening into...dinner-courses!!
We tasted a delicious appetizer at the Colonel of the Carabinieri's; after a greeting with best wishes to everyone and a few kilometers by car, the Rimini Airport Commanding officer's wife served us the classic cappelletti from Romagna; then we had a Neapolitan lasagna prepared by the Commander of the Finance Police's wife and so on...
Another curiosity? The landladies were each from a different region, so we did a great culinary journey!

Leaving Romagna, Oriano, turned the page. And me? I started a very long journey into the craftsmanship.
We returned to Rome back to La Pisana, the same service flats we had left three years before.
Oriana attended the last three years of the classical high school and Oriano directed the CIGA (Information Centre of Aeronautical Geotopography ) based on Pratica di Mare.
