Il Cammino di San Benedetto - The Way of Saint Benedict

My house in Belmonte in Sabina is somewhere along a 300km road from Norcia to Subiaco, up to Montecassino. There are 16 stages, following paths, carriage roads, and low-traffic roads, down the valleys and up the mountains, crossing hillocks, lands and villages of Umbria and Lazio to be discovered on foot or by bicycle.
Two days ago a tornado with a heavy rainfall hit Belmonte and two pilgrims who were on the Way. I always believe that things in life happen for the right reason, at the right moment...
The two pilgrims, with two very small dogs, were in front of my house wet through. They asked me for help, I let them in, they had a warm shower, then we started chatting... chatting, we had dinner together, they went to bed (luckily I have beds enough!) and the day after they had  breakfast and they left, leaving on the table a card with the name and the phone number of a person to contact for information about hospitality to pilgrims.
While I was talking with Mauro (that person) my doorbell rang and I found myself facing two other pilgrims sent me by those who had just left... was this a sign that I had to join the Friends of the Way of St. Benedict? I also welcomed these two pilgrims who left this morning.
I called Mauro back allowing him to add me to the list of houses and families that are available to welcome this particular type of guests: the pilgrims.

What is a pilgrim?
In the Middle Ages, the pilgrim used to face this long journey to fulfill a vow or to expiate a
committed crime. Even more often to obtain an indulgence or a grace. Sometimes he used to go in search of a miracle cure or simply to embark on a journey of faith. None of these aspects is exclusively inherent to the Christian Religion, which, however, at least since the 4th century AD began to recognize in the pilgrimage a complete expression of religious piety.

Here are some very significant sentences taken from "In Cammino" by Anselm Grun: "...we leave to reach a destination, we walk for the pleasure of walking. Many people are fascinated by the experience offered by the journey. They acknowledge the imagery of their lives. Life is a journey. Step by step, each one goes his way, carrying his burdens. There are longer roads, wrong roads, dry and difficult ones but also easy ways.
We walk together, we go towards each other. You go along roads that others have already walked where they have left signs to help us find our way. The road as a metaphor of our life ... "
When my daughter and her partner returned from Compostela (odd 800km...)  I asked her how it went, the answer was: "... very well, beautiful, it's to be done again ..."

On the morning of December 30th, my sister was discharged from the hospital and in the afternoon we went to a Fazenda not far from our house.
Alexandra and Augustus disappeared so I remained alone with Oriano, who, at a certain point, said: "I now understood that things are not going as I would have liked, but I want you to know that I wouldn't oblige you or force you to do anything; but if one day you'd need anything, I will always be there for you."
I was struck by those words and the intonation: so gentle and so intimate.
In fact, I didn't need anything, but from that moment on, I felt something between us could change. Had I finally met someone I could trust? So, while wandering and pretending to feel cold, I put my arm under his.
As he asked for it, I gave him a photo. On it's back I wrote a dedication. Reason told me to use the word "friend".

Mallorca, perfect combination of land and sea, with the lush vegetation of the plains and slopes.

A cold gust of wind disrupted my long brown hair, which invaded my face and mouth, advising me in those first moments to restrain my words.
I got really angry because of this surprise I did not appreciate and driving them to the hotel I almost didn't speak to my suitor.
Augusto, who was worried about Alexandra, broke the silence and asked if I could take him to the hospital the next morning.
I had to manage those moments resolutely, but I also felt embarrassed, and I certainly couldn't completely ignore those two fellows.
It was December 27th and I was informed that their intentions were to leave on January 3. This implied that we were to spend  New Year's Eve together.
I finally decided to speak to Oriano and I told him I didn't like his surprise at all;  and that, by all manners,  I would behave in a civil manner until their departure.

Bimba_Maiorca: Natale 1967 #1

Since my father's life was always full of movements from one country or continent to another, my parents had chosen a fixed place to meet for the holidays: Mallorca.
My father, having assignments often far from Europe, and from Mallorca, accumulated leave every two years to be able to enjoy his Spanish home for six/seven whole weeks.
Christmas 1967. The summer in Brazil was starting and my sisters' school had ended. The whole family left for our home in the Mediterranean Sea
My sister Alexandra had invited her Italian 'fiancé' to celebrate New Year 's Eve, on the largest of the Balearic Islands.
But a few hours before Augusto's arrival, Alexandra had a sudden attack of appendicitis and had to be hospitalized.
At that point, at my sister's request, I went to the airport. To my surprise and, honestly, a little bit disappointed,  I see Oriano, behind Augusto, getting out of the plane.

Le nostre borse, tutt'un mondo - Our bags, a whole world

Please scroll down for the English version!
Written by Dorikri

Our hand-bags. A whole world.

They contain our life, our beautiful memories (the bad ones finish in another way). It contains our wallet, which is, more or less (indeed more than less) full of loyalty cards of all the various supermarkets or stores we trust, ID cards, credit card, ATM cards, etc... Our hand-bag is full of pieces of paper,  they are all over: lots of little pieces of paper.  Receipts, phone numbers, notes... And then there's the most important thing ever! The Purse (with a capital P!) For each of us, it has a different color, shape or size, but all of them contain that what is indispensable to each of us in any moment, to show off or hide what we are. Or at least BE the one we would like others to see.
Today certain things have changed: There are no longer agendas, no shopping list, no notepads, and if you are among those, like me, who are beautifully white-haired, more or less colored, - but always white -  you surely remember that there was a time when there were even gloves and silk head-squares  and a cloth handkerchief...

But it does not matter whether it's a bag of yesterday, of to-day or to-morrow, there is one thing that we NEVER find: the keys! We often even have to topple the bag, empty it completely...
To overcome this I created a special key-chain which will help you finding quickly your keys.

Outside the bag, you can see a beautiful pendant, more or less personalized in shape, size and colour hanging from one of the two handles. From the handle in question starts a chain, as long as you wish, which ends with a ring to which the keys are attached.
When you get home, just pull out the chain and your keys are available.
