I nonni Opi e Omi, ebbero tre figli.
Il primo, mio zio Henk (Henri Marius Elisa), nacque il 10 aprile del 1913, e anche lui offrì parecchi episodi per il ‘quaderno delle stranezze’.
In prime nozze sposò, nel 1947, una signora ungherese di nome Ilona Armowicz (Ilonka), che era già alle seconde nozze.
Si separarono dopo pochi anni perché, non nascendo figli, la colpa doveva essere di lei e così anche mio zio Henk si sposò in seconde nozze nel 1957, con Molly Solleveld (nata nel 1927).
Molly rifiutò la famiglia di mio zio da subito, disprezzando l’origine nobile e le tradizioni che ne conseguivano e riuscì, in pochissimo tempo, ad allontanare suo marito dai suoi genitori.
Considerando che mio padre era in giro per il mondo, che mia zia era sposata in Inghilterra, mio zio Henk era l’unico figlio che i nonni avevano in Olanda.
Non dimentichiamo che zio Henk, essendo il primo figlio, per diritto di discendenza era anche l’erede della famiglia van den Brandeler.
Ebbene, come scritto in precedenza, zia Molly gli fece tagliare i ponti con i suoi familiari, impedendogli di incontrarli per le feste di Natale o Pasqua, e visto che nel frattempo avevano scoperto che era lui a non poter avere dei figli, convinse lo zio ad adottarne.
Niente di male, mi direte! Sì, certo, se non fosse che adottò due bambini dall’Indonesia, e di colore.
Ancora niente di male, mi direte!
Sì, se non fosse che le leggi che regolano le famiglie della nobiltà olandese, nella catena della discendenza, non prendevano in considerazione dei figli adottati, e tanto meno di colore.
A quel punto Opi, essendo lui il capo famiglia, nel giro di pochissimi giorni diseredò mio zio e passò tutto nelle mani di mio padre che, nel frattempo, dopo sei femmine aveva finalmente avuto un figlio maschio.

Let's also not forget that my Uncle Henk, being the first son, was also the heir of the van den Brandeler family.
Well, as previously written, thanks to Aunt Molly the bridges had been burnt, impeding the Xmas meetings or Easter holidays, and since, in the meantime, they had discovered that it was he who could not have children, she convinced my uncle to adopt.

Yes, I do agree, but the laws and rules governing the Dutch nobility, do not recognize adopted children in the line of descendants, and certainly not colored ones.
