Riaccompagnando i cadetti all’albergo dove alloggiavano, proposi a quei giovani di raggiungerci a fine mattina per un pranzo a casa mia e passare insieme una giornata in piscina.
Preparai il pranzo con Virginia, la mia amica brasiliana che parlava la stessa lingua dei cadetti, mentre io comunicavo con loro un po’ in francese e un po’ in inglese.
Dopo aver mangiato, ci mettemmo tutti in costume e andammo a fare il bagno in piscina.
I ragazzi indossavano tutti gli stessi calzoncini fornitigli dall’Arma e Oriano si fece di nuovo avanti, elogiando la mia bellezza: «Senza trucco sei ancora più bella»; una cosa questa che mi diceva sempre anche mia madre, ma ascoltare quelle parole dette da un uomo, avevano un altro sapore e in quel momento decisi che, pur essendo di moda, non mi sarei più truccata così pesantemente.

"O Largo do Boticario". Questa deliziosa piazzetta ombreggiata, rappresenta un classico esempio di architettura brasiliana a cavallo del 19mo e 20mo secolo. Mi è cara perchè si trovava a pochissimi metri da casa nostra. E' uno slargo in " Rua de Cosme Velho" a Larangeiras sotto al Corcovado.
Taking the cadets back to the hotel where they were staying, I invited them to spend the day after at home for a lunch around the pool.
I prepared lunch with Virginia, my Brazilian friend who spoke their language, while I could communicate with them either in that little French or English they knew.
After eating, we all put on our bathing-costumes and decided to go for a swim.
- They all wore the same shorts provided by the Air Force Academy -
Oriano came forward again, praising my beauty: "Without make-up, you're even lovelier". This was something my mother used to tell me, but those words pronounced by a man, had another taste and at that moment I decided that, despite being fashionable, I would no longer make myself up in such a showy way.

This sweet small shady square with its handsome houses and its central fountain is a classical example of the brazilian architecture astride the 19th and the 20th century. It was near our house. It is an enlargement of our "Rua de Cosme Velho" in Larangeiras right under the Corcovado
