Voglio interrompere per un attimo la cronologia di questo mio vissuto.
Conoscendo la mia "mania" per il passato della famiglia e la sua storia, mio padre mi aveva regalato qualche vecchio album.
Di ritorno a Treviso, una sera, mi vien l'idea di sfogliare uno di questi album.
Guardando il retro di certe fotografie e leggendo nomi, trovo delle spiegazioni a cose sentite o intraviste... trovo un vecchio albero genealogico iniziato da...?
Che bella questa mia idea: riprendere e completare questo vecchio albero genealogico...per metterla in atto devo.. e... cercando, cercando... ed ecco che sotto mano ... leggo un nome... dove l’ho già visto? Sentito? Dove? ... Oh...
Ho un ritratto in salone, lo prendo e guardando il retro trovo quel nome; così collego quel nome a tre fogli spillati insieme; scopro che si tratta del mio quadris-nonno per parte della mia Omi, il suo bis-nonno per parte di madre.
Dalla calligrafia capisco che quei tre fogli spillati erano una ricerca che aveva fatto mio zio Henk sulla famiglia di sua madre: gli Ameshoff.
Zio Henk è risalito fino ad Alpine, Re di Dalrezia (morto nell’833, si prima dell'anno 1000), padre di Kenneth II McAlpine, primo re di tutta la Scozia (morto nell’858), a sua volta padre di Konstantine II re di Scozia: erano i re dei Pitti, tradizionalmente considerati re degli Scozzesi...
E così via, di re in re, si arriva ad Ada di Scozia, che nel 1162 sposa Fiorenzo III, Conte d’Olanda, Zeeland e Frisia, che muore in Siria il 1 aprile 1190 ed è sepolto ad Antiocchia (Ada muore nel 1205). Fra il re Alpine e me, ci sono ben trentotto generazioni!
In questo album delle discendenze, ci sono un paio di curiosità; la prima riguarda Duncan I, re di Scozia (1001), che fu ucciso il 14 agosto 1040 da... Macbeth, (si, quel Machbeth!) mentre la seconda riguarda Malcolm III (1031-1093), che sposa Margareth, figlia di Edward, principe d’Inghilterra.
A dire il vero, mia madre non ha mai creduto molto alla completa sanità di mente di mio zio!
Tutto questo sarà proprio vero?
I want to interrupt for a moment the chronology of my story.
Knowing my "mania" for the family's past and its history, my father, once, had given me some old albums.
Back in Treviso one evening, I get to the idea of browsing through one of these albums.
Looking at the back of certain photographs and reading names, I find explanations for things I once had heard or glimpsed ... I find an old family tree started by ...? Whowww!
Why not take up and complete this old family tree? ... To put it in place I need to look for... and looking and looking...maybe this? ... I read a name ... where have I seen it before? Where have I heard of it? Where is it? ... Oh ... I have a portrait in the sitting-room.
I take it off from the wall, I turn it around and I find that name; so I connect that name to three sheets pinned together I find in one of the albums my father had given me; I discover that it is my great-great-grandfather on Omi's side, her great-grandfather on her mother's side.
Studying those three pinned sheets I understand that it was a research my uncle Henk had made about his mother's family: the Ameshoffs.
Uncle Henk went back up to Alpine, King of Dalrezia (died 833, before the year 1000), father of Kenneth II McAlpine, first king of all Scotland (died in 858), in turn father of Konstantine The king of Scotland: they were the kings of the Picts, traditionally considered king of the Scots... And so on, from king to king, we arrive at Ada of Scotland, who in 1162 married Floris III, Count of Holland, Zeeland, and Friesland, who died in Syria on April 1st, 1190 and was buried at Antioch (Ada died in 1205 ). Between King Alpine and me, there are thirty-eight generations!!!
In this album of lineages, there are a couple of curiosities; the first concerns Duncan I, king of Scotland (1001), who was killed on August 14th, 1040 by... Macbeth, (yes, that Macbeth!) while the second concerns Malcolm III (1031-1093), who married Margareth, daughter of Edward, Prince of England. To tell you the truth... reguarding this,my mother never believed my uncle had ever been in complete possession of his full faculties! Would all this be really true?
